Song of the Day: Friendship Train

Rani!

In celebration of Martin Luther King Day, here is the glorious Gladys Knight and her Pips singing "Friendship Train" in 1971.

When I was 8 or 9 or so, I purchased a cassette of Motown's greatest hits with my very own money. I listened to that thing until it wore down to nothing. I love Motown.

While the sentiments of the 1970s sometimes seem trite now, I can't help but wish we had all jumped on the Friendship Train or maybe Cat Steven's Peace Train when we had a chance. What with the way Amtrak's been run into the ground, even a regular train is out of the question these days.

I have been watching Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. I was a huge (HUGE) Star Trek fan when I was a teenager; I would have killed to attend Star Fleet Academy. The idea of working for the greater good and being appreciated for hard work over beauty really hit a chord with me at the time. It still does, I suppose, which is why I'm a civil servant instead of working for a large aerospace corporation, despite the small pay check.

While I do love ST: TNG, DS9 has always been my favorite. I had started a rewatch a few years ago and had gotten up to season 3. I stopped there because I knew Worf came on board, and I had disliked him immensely on the show when I first watched. For various reasons, I decided to pick it up again this weekend.

Nerdy stuff in here. It has nothing to do with Bollywood or JE, so feel free to walk on by! )

ETA: I just watched Crossfire and did, in fact, tear up like the romantic sop I am. *sniff* Poor ODO!
