Some one stop me, I'm starting to dislike Jun Ki's character! Just a little.... he can still win me back, however, winning me back will not include stealing Shi Ho's OTP - (Are you paying attention Jun Ki?)
Episode 8 had one large plot event that everything else hinged on - ( spoiler )
#1 Jun Ki is traveling down a dark path...( Spoilers and screencaps for Iljimae episode 8 )
Jun Ki's character is still very selfish and immature. The innocence problem has been taken care of, however. He needs a real wake-up call.
#2 Shi Hoo is too honest for his own good... ( Sorry, no shirtlessness in today's episode )
Shi Hoo is angry at the entire world and not as good at hiding it as Jun Ki is. *pets*
#3 Bong Soon is still adorable and may have a little angst waiting on the horizon... ( I think she is cute! )
#4 I will never get tired of Evil, Jr. (LOVE him).
Yes, I admit it. After re-reading the Mrs. Gaskell's North and South, I had to re-watch the mini. It is just as good the *mumbles* time through as it was the first time - if not better because now I know the characters so much more.
What struck me this time around, however, is how great a Bollywood film this story would make. Think about it! The sharp but pampered daughter of an academic moves with her father to an industrial town where he gets a job tutoring an unpolished but sympathetic businessman with no time for the weak. Hmm? Yes? Plus, we could throw in all sorts of great commentary about the many faces of capitalism - both cruel and exciting. And there is a wonderful chance to play with the character of Frederick. Instead of being unable to come into the country because of a mutiny, he could be unable to enter the country because he was accused of terrorism! And he could be hiding out in Turkey, instead of Spain, and have converted to Islam rather than Catholicism.
Here is who I would cast:
Margaret Hale - Dutiful daughter, smart, kind-hearted but has been very sheltered in life and does not understand how harsh the world can be.
My choice: Rani Mukerji
Why? I think she has the talent and the wide range of abilities to pull it off. Rani always looks like she has something going on inside her head, even when playing ditzy characters and she can do Margaret's queen-like posture without seeming too icy (like Aishwarya would).
John Thornton - Industrialist. Sharp-witted, rough around the edges, but not unkind - just feels misunderstood.
My choice: Saif Ali Khan
Why? I like seeing him go from grumpy to less-grumpy. And after Omkara I know he has the acting chops to pull of a less-polished character like John Thornton - and Saif has a natural coldness which lends itself to Thornton's unapproachable nature.
And in supporting roles -
Mrs. Thornton - John's formidable and doting mother: Sharmila Tagore for obvious reasons
Mr. Hale - Margaret's ineffective but well-meaning father: Anupam Kher
Nicholas Higgins - Union leader: Paresh Rawal
Bessy Higgins - Nicholas' dying daughter who befriends Margaret: Vidya Balan
Fanny Thornton - John's ditzy comic-relief sister: Katrina Kaif
